In Always and Forever, Elijah tells Sophie that he believes this child will be a way for Klaus to finally be happy. Sophie is glad he feels that way, as she blackmails him. If he gets Klaus to co-operate with their demands, since Marcel Gerard already drove the werewolves from the French Quarter, nobody will have to know of the existence of a hybrid baby. In a later phone conversation with Rebekah Mikaelson, Elijah swears he will not let anything happen to the baby.

In House of the Rising Son, when Rebekah arrives in New Orleans looking for Elijah, she sees Alex again, commenting her "supernatural, miracle baby bump" isn't showing. After a short conversation with Niklaus about the whereabouts of their elder brother, Rebekah takes both Hayley and Alex to the basement of their house, showing them the coffins, before warning them to get out of New Orleans while they can, because once the baby is born, Niklaus will be "planning a coffin for her." Alex comments that the witches cast a spell; if she leaves New Orleans, she and the baby will die. Rebekah's words clearly affecting her, Alex heads to Jardin Gris, inquiring wolfsbane in an attempt to abort the baby. She sits on a bench at night, pouring the poison into a cup of tea, urging herself to drink it. She is about to drink when she hears rustling behind her. Vampires appear in front of her, saying wolves aren't welcome. Alex, fed up of being told what to do by vampires, tosses the cup at him and then bites him before killing him. Rebekah suddenly shows up, ripping the heart out of one of the vampire's, and snapping the neck of the other, saving Alex's life. After Klaus hears of Alex leaving the house, he berates her and demands to know what she was doing. In a rage, Alex growls that she wanted to put the baby out of it's misery, a comment which Klaus begins to choke her over, showing he clearly cares for the baby. The day after, Klaus slowly walks into Alex's room whilst she is supposedly sleeping. He notices the bottle of wolfsbane and sniffs the top. Alex then tells him that she didn't use it, Klaus asks her why, as she could have been free from "all of this." Alex says that when she was being attacked, she wasn't just protecting herself, she was protecting her child and she didn't want to let anyone hurt it.

In Tangled Up In Blue, Alex goes to the gala at the compound where she and Klaus shared a dance, he clearly upset that she came where Vampires are. Later, she is walking by the pool with Hayley at night, suddenly she looks up to see them face to face with a wolf. Sabine Laurent suddenly appears and tells Alex that the wolf is drawn to her because of the baby, before telling her that she knows some charms that can reveal the baby's gender, admitting that it is not magic that she will be using. Later on, Alex is lying on a kitchen table with Sabine dangling a pendant over her stomach. She tells her that she thinks it is a girl, this excites Alex. Alex suddenly becomes serious and says "don't tell me I'm having a mini-Klaus" before Sabine drops the pendant and gasps, repeating the same sentence leaving Alex confused at her words. Sometime later, Klaus walks into the room whilst Alex is seated on her laptop, and she reveals that she thinks their child is a girl; unseen to her, Klaus smiles at the news. As he leaves, Alex is seen typing the sentence Sabine repeated onto her laptop.

While underneath the Abattoir, they get ready to torture Roman since he was one of the people responsible for their mother's death. Roman tries to tell them he's been wanting to talk to them and that while he's sorry for what happened, they don't have to forgive him, and they listen to this. They wonder what's happening to them as marks begin to creep up their arm. They go to Klaus about what's happening and while he tries to tell them to kill Roman, but they don't want to and frees him. After a day out with Elijah and Jeremy, they join Klaus, Alaric, and his daughters as part of a ritual to extract the Hollow from them, which can only be done while they're in the middle of transforming. While Lizzie and Josie are chanting, the transformation begins and they're brought to their knees from their bones breaking and pain resulting from it. Klaus tells them that the first transformation usually takes hours but by embracing the transformation and pain instead of fighting it, the process will be faster. They all have a talk about Always and Forever and that the Mikaelson's are not going anywhere. Hope is painting a family portrait as Nina paints them as wolves. They turns around to see their mother, smiling at them.

Personality[]

Even when she was a baby, Hope was said to be a fighter. It was said by both of her parents; Alex in Girl in New Orleans, where she said to her doctor that her daughter was a tough one just like herself, and by Klaus when he said that both Alex and Hope were fighters in A Closer Walk With Thee. Both times it is implied that Hope inherited this trait from her mother who got it herself from her own uncle, Hope's maternal great-uncle. She also seems to be a very calm and happy. In Ashes to Ashes, Freya says that, like her paternal family, she is resilient. She is also seemingly very intelligent as she was able to use her magic to turn Camille's car on and off, despite still being a baby. Hope seems to be a kind and gentle young girl, with a sweet and innocent persona.

As a teenager, Hope is shown to be stubborn and brave as she was willing to put herself through extreme pain and possible death in order to get her mother back. Both Klaus and Katherine describe Hope as being smart, possibly too smart for her own good, like her father. It has been shown that Hope has gained one of her father's traits of doing whatever she can to protect her family. Hope is always offering to help to save those she cares about and considers family, including Marcel. However, once Hope and her siblings magically absorbs the Hollow’s soul, it nearly drives them insane because they constantly starts to hear whispers of voices in their head. The only way they can end the madness going on inside their head is by committing acts of violence. Instead of taking their anger and frustrations out on innocents, they take it out on those they deems not innocent (provided with their father's assistance). However, their desire to quell the voices by using violence and magic causes them to kill someone who is innocent, although they intended not to.

Hope struggles to forge meaningful connections with other people and make friends with the other students at the Salvatore School, not only because she's already endured a lifetime of grief and heartbreak. To her peers, she seems closed off. She is forgiving to MG when she thought he killed her boyfriend Landon.

Due to her often disastrous past, she has resigned herself to isolation, considering it the path that will provide the least heartbreak in her life. She sees loneliness as less of a burden to bear than her formative experiences of loving so deeply and losing so terribly. However, she has begun to open up more to people other than family, tediously forming friendships and entering a romantic relationship. She is slowly becoming more optimistic that she will be happy.

Hope often puts her safety and life on the line to save others, making her a true hero. She is incredibly loyal to her friends, despite her difficulties working with a team. She is independent and believes she can complete any task by herself, though she slowly becomes more willing to work with others. She and her siblings made the impossible choice to become a tribrid as a way of saving thousands of people that they would never meet, despite the consequence of having to lose someone she truly loved. She feared that becoming the tribrid would not only keep her locked in her trauma, but that she wouldn't be capable of bearing the loss or guilt over killing Landon - Malivore's true vessel. The way she lived her life earned her the option of finding peace when she died. However, she chose to return to save everyone, though her choice became more difficult when Malivore allowed Landon to resurface and communicate with Hope. With his permission, she was forced to kill Landon to put an end to Malivore's reign of terror. The act caused her to instantly flip her humanity switch.

After being forced to kill the self-proclaimed love of her life, Hope's humanity switch flipped by itself to spare her the overwhelming emotions that would have followed. Hope admits that she feels free after turning it all off, as though she can finally be who she wants and go where she wants. Her life has been a cycle of love, lose, grieve, repeat, but that's all gone now. She also has lost her desire to be around those who previously cared for her. To accomplish this, she brutally attacks Alaric to send a message to her friends and family not to come after her. She also states that she is her father's daughter, accepting that fact for the first time.

Her careless and reckless attitude continues, as she seeks to have fun and experiment with her new vampiric nature. Her sense of freedom allows her to dance with a bar patron, drink alcohol, and enjoy feeding in public. She tortures a Triad Industries henchman using darts, a callous display of apathy. Hope's dedication to her family is also gone, as she doesn't want Rebekah's help or any of the other family to come for them. She turns away from them as she refuses to make the same mistakes her father did - caring about family or love. While cutting Rebekah out of her life, Hope gives her Mikaelson crest necklace back to her. However, she's finally free to live her life the way she chooses, a fact that seems to propel her choices. She blatantly puts the life of the now-human Ryan Clarke in danger for her amusement.

The only emotions Hope does seem to express is boredom, brutal honesty, and rage. She quickly tires of MG's attempts to turn her humanity on, but endures the school's efforts due to their pact. She grows bored when Cleo reads Landon's final letter, even lashing out at her and Finch. Hope fights Finch when she and Ethan attempt to attack her. She expresses a desire to kill them for their indiscretion. On the flip side, Hope remains incapable of harming those she truly cared for when her humanity was on, an obeservation Josie points out. She doesn't kill Alaric but severely wounds him, spares a tender-aged Pedro from her brutal honesty, and doesn't kill Josie despite the recent attack from Dark Josie. Knowing that Josie won't give up in her attempts to "save" her, Hope traps Josie's subconscious in the therapy box instead of killing her, which demonstrates a sense of loyalty and some depth of care.

Physical Appearance[]

Hope as a child.

According to Rebekah, Hope looks like her mother. On the other hand, Klaus blissfully implies that Hope has inherited his eyes. As a baby she had dirty-blonde hair and round dark-blue eyes. As a child she has long auburn hair and light blue eyes. Her cheeks have little freckles scattered across them. She is seen in light colored sleeveless dresses, that normally have flowers or other prints on them. Hope also has little dimples in her cheeks.

Hope as a teen.

Now as a teenager, Hope has auburn hair and light blue eyes. Katherine described her as beautiful. As a Labonair, she has the Crescent birthmark on her right shoulder, just like her mother and distant relatives, Eve and Lana, and the Hollow. In her wolf form, Hope possesses white fur like her mother and has the typical glowing yellow eyes that comes with Lycanthropy.

Powers and Abilities[]

As a hybrid of three supernatural species - a witch, a werewolf, and a vampire; the full extent and limits of Hope's powers are currently unknown.

Hope, her mother, her aunt, and her siblings are Nature's loophole that could be used against Malivore. Due to this, they can remember those that she previously knew and have been consumed by Malivore as well as heal others with her blood that have been shot with weaponized Malivore bullets.

Hope is a witch-hybrid, having inherited her witch gene from her father, the son of Esther Mikaelson and her mother, Alex Gilbert. According to Dahlia, as a firstborn of their bloodline, Hope has inherited great, but devastating power. Dahlia also notes that Hope's magic will be tainted by Klaus' and Alex's vampire blood as well as the aggressive wolf temperament. Despite this, Genevieve states that Hope's magic is strong enough to fuel the French Quarter Coven's ancestral power for generations, while one of the Hollow's acolytes reiterates this sentiment when he states that Hope and her siblings might be the greatest witch the world may ever know.

As a baby, Hope demonstrated heightened awareness of the impending explosion at her family's house and she used her magic to temporarily turn off Camille's car (as they were on their way there) to protect herself and Camille. She then used it again to turn the car back on.

After five years of being hidden from the world with her siblings, Hope has been able to heal insect wings with no formal training, with her bracelet removed. She's also had a connection to the Hollow, drawing her sigil, the Ouroboros, though whether that was an inherent connection or the link that was used in an attempt to sacrifice her, remains to be known. Her connection to New Orleans soil, despite not being a Harvest girl or apparent knowledge of the Ancestors, allowed her to communicate with them, where as non-witches could not. It is worthy to note that Hope has detected these events while still wearing her bracelet that blocks her power. In Keepers of the House, while other children were unconscious as a result of being tied to a spell that was draining their energy, Hope was able to retain her consciousness like her siblings until her magic sealing bracelet was removed by Klaus. In High Water and a Devil's Daughter, Hope managed to counter the boundary spell cast by her aunt Freya on Marcel. She and her siblings would later use their telekinesis to break the salt circle that bound the spirit of Davina to the mortal plane, sending her back to the Ancestral Plane, and returned their father back to his body.

Seven years later, Hope has improved control over her magic as a teenager; however, such control is lost during bursts of anger. She has also shown skill in creating her own spells with her siblings, such that she and her siblings created a spell combined with a cloaking spell that she, Jax, Nina, and Lily performed on Alex, as she and her siblings were the one to kidnap her and lure Klaus back to New Orleans. She and her siblings claimed that it was the "perfect" cloaking spell and that it would keep her safe; despite this claim, she was kidnapped again.

While she, Jax, Nina, and Lily were the Hollow's vessels, containing both spirit and Dark Magic, there magic was amplified by that of the Hollow, as she whispered to them in her attempt to corrupt them. During this time, their telekinesis and pain infliction seemed to be amplified as purging their pain, by using their magic, seemed to be the only course of treatment.

Two years later, now with the Hollow expelled from her body, her magic seems to have become more stabilized and in her own control. However, she, Lily, and sometimes Nina continues to use Dark Magic. She and Lily performed a Death Spell that wounded Dragon, that caused her to revert back into to her human form.

Unlike every witch that transitioned into a vampire, Hope did not lose her ability to practice magic when she became a full tribrid. She was, however, unable to access her magic when she was in transition which left her vulnerable. After feeding, she regained access to her magic, in addition to her vampire and werewolf natures.

Hope is also part werewolf, having inherited the werewolf gene from both of her parents. Prior to triggering her curse, she displayed some increased agility and grace, above that of a normal human. Since she has triggered her werewolf gene, she has gained all of the powers of lycanthropy. In The Tale of Two Wolves, with Hope's first transformation with her siblings looming, Caroline questions that Crescent wolves could control their transformations. In response, Klaus states that the first transformation is a rite of passage and cannot be controlled. This implicates that her werewolf nature as an Evolved Werewolf with the ability of Transformation Control. However, in This is the Part Where You Run, Hope states to Landon that her ability to control her transformation stems from her tribrid status, as like with other werewolf-vampire hybrids. Currently, whether it's the former or latter which grants her transformation control, or additional abilities as an evolved werewolf, remains unknown. Additionally in The Tale of Two Wolves, Klaus explains that during werewolf transformations, the pain will make one want to delay the shift because that is all they believe they can handle. However, should one let the pain in, then it cannot break oneself. Following Klaus' instruction, Hope has accepted the pain during her transformation, thus it allows her to fully transform within a few minutes instead of a few hours. Despite that the werewolf curse was originally casted upon Native American witches, preventing them and their descendants from using magic, Hope's lycanthropy does not negate her ability to practice magic; further reasoning about this has not been elaborated upon.

Upon completing her transition into a fully activated tribrid in See You On The Other Side, Hope gained the ability to transform from human to wolf form within seconds while magically maintaining her clothing. Her transition also included an energy wave that rippled over her body as she transitioned from one form to another, a trait that is not present in other werewolf transformations.

Before becoming an activated tribrid, Hope possessed a few vampiric traits, specifically her blood. Her blood was able to help heal her mother while in the womb as well as she's able to heal herself, such as when she sliced open her hand and stabbed her foot with a trash picker. Her blood can be used to sire new vampires and hybrids, the latter being an ability possessed by the Original Hybrid, her father as well as to heal vampires from a werewolf bite.

After completing her transition, Hope was still able to practice magic, as she created a sword out of her blood. Her true form did not alter much, as she maintained her golden eyes.

Weaknesses[]

According to Dahlia, firstborns of her family's bloodline inherit great power; however, it is unstable and will damage and, ultimately, kill the witch if they are not taught to contain it. Furthermore, as a possessor of the werewolf gene, Hope will experience bouts of severe aggression.

As one of the hybrid of all three supernatural species, the full extent and limits of Hope's weaknesses are currently unknown.

Emmett claimed that Marcel's advanced werewolf venom can take down a hybrid, an Original, and even Hope Mikaelson, her siblings, and her cousins. However, he gave no evidence as to why it would or could be lethal to Hope, her siblings, or her cousins; nor has this been proven to be true.

While searching for a way to kill the tribrid, Cleo Sowande allegedly saw a weapon powerful enough to kill Jack and Hope as well as their siblings, cousins, and mother, though Cleo didn't elaborate as to what it was specifically. Similar to that of her biological family, Hope can be daggered and temporarily desiccated by the white oak ash daggers. However, she cannot be daggered for long without resurrecting due to her tribrid nature. This is a feat that even the original vampires were unable to do, as someone else had to remove the dagger for them.

Alexandria Gilbert[]

"I made a promise, to my baby, and to myself, that she would grow up like I did. That she would grow up safe, and loved."
—Alex about Hope in From a Cradle to a Grave
Main Article: Alexandria and Hope

Alex is Hope's mother and it is shown various times that Alex strongly loves her daughter. When she first discovered she was pregnant, she attempted to abort the baby by ingesting wolfsbane, but when she couldn't resolve herself to do it she was attacked and she realized that she wasn't just protecting herself but the baby as well. She then learned that she will have a daughter. As time passed, Alex grew concerned that because she had a loving family and hopes that her daughter too will have it too. This is shown when Genevieve and the Harvest girls kidnapped Hope, and tried to kill her. Alex was there and fought for her daughter, and got her back. She also demonstrated the aptitude to know where her daughter is, even if she is hidden by a spell. Alex made a promise to herself and Hope that she (Hope) would grow up safe and loved (like herself). She kept this promise by choosing to send Hope away with Rebekah to keep her safe from those that would wish her harm in New Orleans. After a few months apart they were reunited. Hope is now living with her parents and family in The Abattoir.

Niklaus Mikaelson[]

"We all waited for you for years. You never came."
—Hope to Klaus in One Wrong Turn On Bourbon

Klaus is Hope's father, and even though at first he refused the child in Always and Forever, he soon accepted her and was determined to not be like his step-father to his child. He even told Alex that the cycle of the pain will end with their baby. After that, he did everything he could to make sure she was kept safe and was shown to be happy when he learned the baby would be a girl. He wants to protect her at all costs and hopes to be in her life someday when it is safe for her. He is not giving up on being in his daughter's life quite yet. He is also dedicated to being a better father to her than his step-father was to him. His love for his daughter brings out the best in Klaus, best seen in his reconciliation with both Rebekah and Marcel. With the child being born, Klaus is becoming the man he used to be. After some time apart from his daughter, she returned home. However, he remains paranoid as he worries about her safety.

Because of her mother telling her about her father Hope deems Klaus her "fairytale prince".

"I know I have to give her back to Alex when the time is right. She's made me realize how much I want that child of my own that I know I can't have her."
—Rebekah to Elijah about Hope

Rebekah left town before Hope's birth but soon returned when Klaus asked her to protect his daughter. Klaus told Rebekah that despite their differences, there was nobody else he would trust more with the life of his daughter. Rebekah left New Orleans with Hope and became her guardian; she often told Hope stories of her birth and how her parents sent her away to be safe. Rebekah and Hope returned to New Orleans after Esther found them.

Main Article: Landon and Hope

Hope first met Landon in 2026, and frequented where he used to work in Mystic Falls; Mystic Diaries. They grew to be friends and it was clear they shared a connection more than that of friends. However, Landon moved away from Mystic Falls they lost contact for two years. They reconnected when Landon's foster brother turned into a werewolf and Landon decided to be there with him, against Hope's advice, leading to Landon learning about the supernatural. To keep him from danger, Alaric decided to have him compelled and sent away; however, Landon betrayed Hope and the school by stealing a supernatural knife after the compulsion failed. Hope planned on confronting him about his betrayal, even armed with a death spell, but Alaric later rebuked her for this. Landon genuinely explained that the supernatural knife caused him to lie to Hope, but she didn't believe him. Despite what Landon had done, he was provided shelter at the Boarding School and putting their differences aside, he was willing to help Hope and school to investigate the missing reports of two Mystic Falls high schoolers. She attempts to save their friendship by starting a genuine conversation, but he cuts her off by explaining that he wished she had his back and that she just blamed him for everything that happened despite it not being his fault. Their back-and-forth prodding comes to head, when Hope, asked by Alaric, has to conduct a series of magical tests on Landon to determine whether he's supernatural. The tests, however, prove negative. She eventually forgives him for hurting her, but later, when seeing Landon off, he says he's not surprised she voted 'no' to keep him at the school. However, they resolve their issues when Hope gives him a magical compass and sends him to New Orleans in the hopes to locate his birth family and they share a heartfelt kiss. After Landon activates the magical compass, indicating that he was in trouble, Hope tracks Landon to Kansas and his birth mother, Seylah Chelon. With Landon safe from immediate harm, they reconnect, though before things get too physical, they're interrupted by Alaric. They eventually make their way back to the Boarding School where Hope asks Landon to be her boyfriend, to which he says yes. After this, Hope initiates another kiss.
